Panama & Santo Domingo
Oct 2018
Panama Layover
We had a ~12 hour layover in Panama on our way to the DR.
Metropolitan Natural Park - saw little mammals and some flooded buildings
Miraflores Locks - had a great visitor center! didn’t get to see a ship go through, still worth scoping out
Santo Domingo
5 Days in Cuidad Colonial next to Rio Ozama, mostly day trips and wandering.
ChocoMuseo - a very elaborate chocolate museum with impressive displays, bean to bar. We tasted different stages and made a bar with toppings of our design
Fortaleza Ozama - medieval style castle, impressive views, can wander the inside
Parque Nacional Los Tres Ojos - super cool underground lakes/lagoons. We rode across in a raft through a cave to a beautiful open-air, one, surrounded by lush ferns
DR National Aquarium - turtles, manatees, with a marine-themed playgrounds. It was pouring so we hid out in the back of the snack booth with the staff. The best part was bonding with the manatees 😍.
National Botanical Gardens - huge area with plants and trees from around the world, could spend a long time wandering here
